NEXTSCAN HELPS PRESERVE AND DISSEMINATE CANADIAN HISTORY

The Library and Archives Canada (LAC) collects and preserves Canada's documentary heritage, and makes it accessible to all Canadians either online or at the Archives headquarters. This heritage includes publications, archival records, sound and audio-visual materials, photographs, artworks, and electronic documents such as websites. As part of its mandate, LAC works closely with other archives and libraries to acquire and share these materials as widely as possible.

NEXTSCAN HARDWARE AND RIBBON SCANNING TECHNOLOGY ENABLES CREEKSIDE DIGITAL TO CONVERT LOCAL NEWSPAPERS FOR SANTA PAULA HISTORICAL SOCIETY

When the Santa Paula Historical Society decided to convert its microfilm collection of local newspapers to a searchable digital format, President Mary Alice Orcutt Henderson contacted Creekside Digital.  Prior to committing to a project, SPHS sent Creekside its oldest and most difficult to read roll of microfilm in the collection, and Creekside provided free samples in order to demonstrate both the quality of the microfilm scans using nextScan equipment....

NEXTSCAN FACILITATES MICROFILM CONVERSION FOR NATIONAL NEWSPAPER DIGITIZATION IN AUSTRALIA

In the fall of 2006, as part of a collaborative program to locate, collect and      preserve every newspaper ever published in Australia, the National Library of Australia (National Library) initiated the Australian Newspapers Digitization Program (ANDP) http://www.nla.gov.au/ndp.  The ultimate goal of the Program is to vastly improve access for all Australians to the rich source of Australian documentary history that newspapers provide.  Over a period of four years the National Library is working closely with the Australian state and territory libraries to digitize and make available approximately 3.5 million pages of newspaper content.

Service provider W & F Pascoe Pty Ltd converts Australian historical documents for online availability
Founded in 1957, W & F Pascoe Pty Ltd of Sydney began as a specialist in the preservation microfilming of Australian newspapers, periodicals and manuscripts.  Initially working with a few newspapers and libraries, Pascoe now works with the majority of major libraries and newspapers in the country.  In the last few years, these various organizations, to include the National and State Libraries and the one of the largest newspapers, have expressed the desire to convert this storage medium into digital files that can be made accessible to users online with full-text search.
